I ordered three. two of them have multiple minor defect, such as crack, scratching, poor finish, even one of the screw has no thread. but not big enough for return. it looks pretty sturdy though. but I do not see a huge difference compare with those from ikea though.

(More customer reviews)Easy assembly, part bags were all labeled which is a nice touch. Everything fit together well and looks nice. I like that it is hardwood veneer over MDF instead of laminate over MDF, which looks nicer. Also secures to the wall so kids can't tip it over. One gripe - the sticker labels on the back pieces face in, so you have to peel them off and they leave glue residue which must be cleaned off.

(More customer reviews)We got two of the open shelf and three of the library. These looked great when put together, but there are some things you should consider:
1.) This is press board furniture, and it is cheap. It will warp in time, and is heavier than wood furniture.
2.) The veneer is paper, and it is fragile - it scrapes off easily.
3.) The pieces don't fit together well, and some had to be sanded to fit. The connectors are plastic and fragile.
4.) The stability is based on the paper backing holding the unit together. We put L brackets in the top and bottom to stabilize it.
5.) You can only put 25 pounds on each shelf. That's not many books.
6.) The shipping is expensive, because it is so heavy.
7.) It takes time to put them together, but is easy. You need two people to do it.
8.) Check each piece carefully for cracks prior to assembly. We found several in the long pieces, and it wasn't until they were being assembled. Go directly to Sauder for replacement.
If you are looking for something to look impressive but not be a sturdy, long-lasting item - buy this. As for the economy right now - I don't see why we should buy expensive furniture - so this is perfect.

Way Basics Eco Modular Cubes Storage and Organization Review

(More customer reviews)Frankly, at first I had doubts. But, I needed a bookshelf for a low ceiling area for a media room and I decided to go for it. I am pleasantly surprised and satisfied. I am considering buying six more of the larger ones for another project I have.
In no particular order, here are my observations:
Concept - very unique use recycled materials. I'm no greenie, but still like the concept
Fit - Very good fit with careful positioning during assembly
Weight - surprisingly light
Strength - very strong once assembled for intended use
Color - just what I expected and wanted
Versatility - great. See posted picture for an interesting variation
Price Performance - Excellent value for price paid
Customer Service - Excellent. Asked Jimmy a question about back board [it IS reversible] and had reply in hours
Assembly - fun and fast. 15 minutes accurate as posted. OK, if you are a "detail" person maybe 30 minutes
Product Packaging - when I first saw outer box, oh, oh, but, each cube is carefully packed in its own box, no problem
Delivery - usual, great Amazon Prime performance
Important assembly suggestion - put one cube together WITHOUT peeling the 3M tape. Make sure the side panels all have tape showing on the back of the cube to attach the back board. Backboard is vital piece that gives stability and strength to the cube. Note that though there are small dowels used in assembly. There is small amount of movement allowed for precise edge alignment. So, when doing final assembly be careful to line up edges as close as possible for best fit. You will understand this once you put one together without the tape and move the boards to align. This important alignment step will contribute to the final look of the cubes. Obviously, it is very difficult/impossible to make corrections once the mighty 3M tape sticks to other surface.

Cons: Some of the parts did not line up correctly. I had to make new holes to make it work.
The item was obviously returned and then reshipped to me. When I received the item, the box was all taped up and some of the pieces had big scratches. Once scratch went all the way accross one of the shelves.

After multiple searches on amazon.com, I was so happy when I found the way basics cubes! They are perfect size, colors and so easy to assemble. They are very durable, strong and fun too! (More customer reviews)I was very disappointed with this item, and it was the only product in many years of shopping at amazon that I had to return. I've bought more than 20 nearly identical bookcases from other sources, widely available on the web, made in Thailand. They require no assembly at all, just open and the shelves fall into place, and they are very sturdy. I ordered 6 of this slightly different product at a higher cost than average because I wanted them in a hurry, and amazon offered overnight shipping for something which usually takes two weeks to arrive. But this bookcase required two people more than an hour to assemble, none of the parts quite fit, and the one I did manage to assemble was wobbly, so I returned the other 5 (which took almost three weeks and many phone calls). It is a mystery that such a poorly designed product could survive the competition.

Prepac Oak 2-shelf Bookcase Review

(More customer reviews)It looks nice and matches my oak floors well. I got the book cases (four of them) because it fits into the space in my office and it looked, from the photos, okay, especially for the money. Given that I didn't pay shipping or taxes, I figured I'd go for it.
This is what the company selling the product does NOT tell you. If they did, they would sell far less product. I know I wouldn't have ordered this book case. 1. The back of the book case is not laminate wood (as advertised) nor is it a board. It is cardboard with a sheet of oak looking paper on it. It is both cheap and false advertising. 2. The clips to hold the shelf in place are made of plastic. They need to be changed to brass so that the shelf does not collapse from the weight of the books. That's an additional expense, albeit minor, but it also means a trip to Home Depot or your local hardware store.
At least now you can make an informed decision. Zero stars for the fallacious advertising, cheap backing, and plastic clips, and three stars for the book case. I am keeping the book cases only because the size is correct for my purposes. We'll see how long it lasts. Fair value for this book case would be about $50. Check Staples, Ikea, Office Depot, etc., before even thinking of buying this book case.

Way Basics Eco Storage Triple Rectangle Plus Review

(More customer reviews)I want to thank Way Basics for making a product that is easy to put together AND flexible in design (and, lest I forget eco-friendly - both because it uses post consumer waste, but also because it is itself recyclable).
Now, I'm one of those people who looks at something and says, 'that's nice, but it'd work better for me if I could move that there and this here...' Well you can do that with these sets! In this set you are given four horizonal-use boards and six vertical support boards. Yes, you can quickly put it together the way they suggest, but you can also, say, inset the vertical supports four inches or so in on the top and bottom level and come up with a different look! As I mentioned in my review of the Tribeca unit: if you are going to play around with the lay out: set everything out on the floor as if the unit was laying flat on its 'back' (the boards are thick enough to 'stand' on their narrow width) to make sure a)you like the pattern you are planning and b)you have all the pieces for the pattern you are planning. Because once you've pulled back the covering for the adhesive and 'stuck' it, you're pretty much set with where it is. (fortunately not a problem I ran into, although I was working to make two non standard units out of four sets).
I'd also strongly suggest putting it together in the room you are going to use it unless you have the space to leave it where you've built it for 24 hours to set (heavy books on top apparently help this).
All in all a great product, I'd give it a five but there were some dings and slightly warped/crumpled edges (inside a pristine box) - which were only noticeable when you're right on top of the piece, which of course you are when you set it up.
Can't wait until the 'desk' comes out - already planning on how to switch that up!
added 11/09: You've GOT to use the backer board or your unit isn't going to be stable. I sent a picture of my 'design' to way basics and they shot me an email back letting me know how very important this is! And you really need to make sure you put weight on the top when you're done and let it 'set overnight' for the glue to 'take'.

The top shelf could only be secured with 3 screws, because one bolt counter sunk was not deep enough by a 1/4 inch.
The bolt did not reach the shelf to be tightened.

He had a taller shelf before that and I always worried that he would knock it over, but I have no such worries with this one. This one is the perfect height for a small child and it's absolutely adorable. It was easy to put together and I feel that it is sturdily constructed. I certainly never worry about it breaking.
